AMD FX 4300 Review

In this AMD FX 4300 review, we note that this processor that has been on the market for a while and it is an affordable CPU that is powerful and good for your money compared to other processors in the same category. However, if you are looking for a better processor in terms of price, the Intel Pentium G4400 could be the right competitor of AMD FX 4300. The AMD FX 4300 has an ok performance with decent overlocking ability.

Performance

The AMD FX 4300 processor is a quad-core CPU that is based on Vishera core designed by the 32nm technology. It has a TDP of 95 W which is low with AM3+ socket and base clock of 3.8 GHz. It features a turbo clock of 4.0 GHz. When we compare the AMD FX 4300 with FX 6350 we realise that it has two cores less and slightly lower clock. It also has 4 threads and CMOS 32nm SOI The FX 6350 therefore is a better cost/benefit ratio processor suitable for average computers.

Similar to the FX 6300, the clock speed of FX 4300 is low if we compare it to the previous versions. The AMD FX 4300 processor features 2 x 2 MiB L2 Cache and 8 MiB L3 Cache 2with a memory support of up to DDR3-1866. It also has two memory channels. It has a single thread rating of 1410.

Features and chipset

The AMD FX 4300 review claims that it is so close in price with the FX 6200. The previous AMD FX-4170 had the same dual-module, quad-core make-up and ran at an industry-leading 4.2 GHz. It can also go up to about 5 GHz with fairly rudimentary overlocking.

The eight core AMD FX 8320, the six-core AMD FX 6300 and the four-core AMD FX 4300 are all based on the Vishera Piledriver architecture but different number of cores and cache. We have the following configuration and compatibility of the motherboard and memory:

Motherboard (socket AM3 +): ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX killer

Motherboard (Socket LGA 1151): ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K6+

Motherboard (socket FM2+)): ASRock FM288X Extreme6+

Memory (DDR3): 8 GiB DDR-2133, two G.Skill Ripjaws F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH 4 GiB memory modules configured at 2,133 MHz

Memory (DDR4): 8 GiB DDR4-2400 two G.Skill Ripjaws 4 F4-2400C15Q-16GRR 4 GiB memory modules configured at 2133 MHz

Video card: Kingston HyperX Savage 480 GB

Video monitor: Philips 236VL

Power Supply: Corsair CX5000M.

The 3DMark benchmark of AMD FX-4300 review in comparison with other versions using the GeForce GTX 950 VGA on Fire Strike shows that the FX 4300 is slower than the FX-6300 by 9%. It is also slower than the FX-8350 by 12% but obtains similar performance to the A10-7870K and 10% slower than the Core i3-6100.

On the Sky Diver benchmark the FX-4300 is 18% slower compared to the FX 6300, 26% slower than the FX-8350, 5% slower than A10-7870K and 16% slower than the Corei3-6100.

The AMD FX 4300 processor review in terms of Cloud Gate benchmark, the GFX-4300 shows a 25% slower than the FX-6350, 41% slower than the FX-8350, 8% slower than A10-7870K and 28% slower than the Core i3-6100.

Overlocking and heat

Just like the other FX processors, the FX-4300 has an unlocked clock multiplier when reviewed. This means that it is quite possible to overclock it by just charging the multiplier. If there is need of overclocking on the AMD FX 4300 it is necessary using a better cooler because the stock cooler that comes with this gadget is very limited.

In testing the AMD FX 4300, the core voltage has to be raised to about 1.4 v so as to achieve stability at 4.2 GHz (200 MHz referenced clock and x22 multiplier). It has a maximum temperature of 70.5oC has an overclocking speed of 32Nm-95 W.

Pricing and Availability

The AMD FX 4300 is available from $42.70 which is an average pricing better value for your money. The Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz is priced at $77.33 which has higher results better value for money. A closer competitor is the Intel Core i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz priced at $44.87 better value for your money which is slightly above the AMD FX 4300in the pecking order and Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00 GHz that costs $37.54 that seat below it.

Conclusion

The FX-4300 is a processor that as launched sometimes back and it is a good CPU good for your budget. It mostly compared to the FX 6350 and some other models which through certain tests it was slightly slower and similar in others. It is affordable but if you are not short of money then the FX-6350 and the Core i3-6100 could be a better option.
